Full inner shell padding with no gaps in impact areas gives complete coverage and meets all new certification rules. The flared lower chin provides added rigidity and allows the goaltender to close off the area between the neck and chest for greater protection coverage. The shell shape has been carefully contoured and molded to reduced flat spots in the design to reduce impacts in critical areas and provide lighter weight and higher strength. cage. The 7700 SB goal mask is engineered to provide increased performance with greater visibility and sight lines. If you want something different, go with Thomas-, Liut- or Melanson-style 'cheater' cage: a straight bar design that offers cate-eye-esque visibility and comparable protection to a classic cert. It has none of the advantages of either a true cat-eye or a straight-bar cage, worse visibility than both, and worse protection than a straight-bar. Ron is an absolutely first-rate craftsman, up there with Jerry Wright, Ed Cubberly, Michel Doganieri, Dom Malerba, Shawn Schroeder, and the late Garry Warwick (RIP).ĭon't bother with the certified cat-eye: once the pre- and post-purchase rationalization wears off, you will be disappointed. OTNY makes a very good mask, but to talk directly to your builder and to know exactly are vital aspects of getting a good custom mask. I would give a small edge to Ron/Coveted because of direct contact with the builder and certainty about lay-up (especially the epoxy resin, which is more important than the fibre content). The people who are saying "OTNY no question" are slightly misleading. The funny thing is that Ron Stefaniuk (the guy who actually makes 'Coveted Masks') also made shells for OTNY, until quite recently. Hope this helps and you choose OTNY!Įdit: To add a tidbit they also offer a cheater bar cage which means MUCH better visuals, no bars in front of your eyes with all the protection of a cage.Įdit 2: I checked the site again and didn't see it initially but they also have a CERT cateye. I DO believe they make an open mouth cateye though which has smaller eye holes to make it safer. As this is a HECC/CSA certified mask, the only option that comes with is the straight bar.

This goalie mask has a shorter chin, is under $500, you can pick the color of your cage/mask for $30 bucks plus the thing looks great. I've been reading the other comments and believe I can offer a solution to both the CSA/HECC approval and the long chin. I personally have no issues with the long chin with a beefy chest protector, but I can definitely understand the concern. Glad you like it, I appreciate it haha! OTNY is truly a special company when it comes to working with their customers. Overall I'm extremely happy with my bucket and the only negative thing is due to the chin-chesty combination, which you don't have to order. The Otny also fits snugly to your melon, but that's what you get with a custom bucket one that fits properly. So it's a good thing they make regular chins as well. I will say that the long chin can be a bit of a pain to get used to, and if you have a Passau pro-pack chesty, or similar, can be a bit restrictive looking over your shoulder. Coming from a Vaughn 9500, it was like stepping out of a dungeon putting on the Otny. The field of view from the facial cutout is massive and non-restricting.

Both the forehead and chin are significantly beefed, and can take a shot without giving you ear ringing it's just a nice crack and you move on with your day. I have the Otny X1M long chin with the open-mouth cat eye and Maltese foam, and it's great! The wire for the cage is rock solid, as is the helmet. Want General Hockey Nonsense?
